Neighbourhood watch
25 years on - and still going strong

This year marks the 25th anniversary of Neighbourhood Watch in the UK.
The pioneers were a group of residents from Mollington, near Chester, who got together when a mini crime wave hit their village back in 1982. They had heard about Neighbourhood Watch schemes being successful in the United States and set up a Watch scheme of their own.
Today there are some 170,000 Neighbourhood Watch groups, making it the largest voluntary community movement in the UK.
